In an end-to-end match watched by England boss Sven Goran Erikkson Charlton and Everton shared the points The Valley in a pulsating 2-2 draw.

The Merseysiders twice came from behind after conceding two penalties converted for Charlton by the impressive Jason Euell.

Steve Watson got the Toffees back in the game after the first spot kick and youngster Wayne Rooney scored a great second for the visitors.

Both sides enjoyed excellent results on Saturday but it was Everton who started the brighter with Tomasz Radzinski and David Unsworth both going close.

Charlton took the lead from their first penalty after Unsworth ended a flowing move, orchestrated by Matt Holland, by bringing down Scott Parker.

Euell converted the penalty expertly past Richard Wright.

Within three minutes Everton had levelled, Gary Naysmith's long ball caught out the home defence and Steve Watson ghosted in behind them to lob the ball over Dean Kiely.

Within two minutes of the restart the Addicks had a second penalty when Hermann Hreidarsson was brought down by Joseph Yobo to give Euell the chance to score from his second spot kick.

The Toffees kept up the pressure in the search for an equaliser and it came with Naysmith again the provider, crossing for Rooney to bring the ball down and fire hard into the net.

Everton looked the more likely to get a winner but both sides will be happy with the point which gives both of them four points from their opening three games.
