...we're Gunter have to offer more

The young Welsh defender has been the subject of two bids from the Blues, but Cardiff have told the club that they must increase their valuation of the player if they are to sign him.

And, in a rare move for Everton, Gary Naysmith's name hasn't cropped up in any negotiations.

Presumably because he's still the carrot we're dangling in front of Sheffield United to force them to part with Phil Jagielka.

Which is a bit like trying to coax a cat dwon from a tree with a stale loaf.

Anyway, young Gunter...apart from sounding like a member of the Gestapo on 'allo 'allo, the 17-year-old defender has made 16 appearances for the Bluebirds and has earned one cap for Wales, during last month's friendly with New Zealand.

He was also named 'Apprentice of the Year' by the Football League, an accolade that conjours up images of him pulling rabbits from hats and popping flowers out of a magic wand.

But, it's good to see that Moyes is still looking to the future by investing in promising youngsters.

If we do sign Gunter, he'll join 16-year-old Karl Sheppard, who we signed from Shelbourne, and 18-year-old Lukas Jutkiewicz, from Swindon, as some hopes for the future.

Now where did we leave Scott Spencer?
