And, if they have broken down, Harry Redknapp is said to be 'waiting in the wings'...presumably wearing a cloak, top hat and tweaking a well waxed moustache.
Arsene Wenger, ever the more studious of the North London maangers, is said to be 'monitoring the situation'...so no doubt he'll have his half moon specs halfway down his nose and his dark office will be dimly illuminated by the flickering green of his MS Dos screen, like something off War Games.
Rafael Benitez is also said to be interested in Saha and is thinking of raiding his tip jar.
Saha has six months left on his current Everton contract which means that he can either leave this month for a fee or sign a pre-contract agreement with another club, though not with another English club, and leave for nothing in the summer.
And, whilst Everton will no doubt feel that Saha owes them they took a leap of faith with Saha and effectively got his career back on track, the plain fact is that he doesn't owe anyone anything.
He needs a new contract, be it at Everton or elsewhere and, given his form this term, can anyone blame him for wanting improved terms?
The question is how have Everton let it get to the stage where our top striker can leave for nothing?
And what's even more staggering is that they've let his contract run down despite the fact that David Moyes openly admitted that he turned down a bid of £8 million for the striker in the summer!
