Sheilas take a bow...

The last time we looked at the ladies (back at the end of November, I know I said it's be a semi-regular feature but I thought it'd be more regualr than that!) they were in fifth position, ten points behind league leaders Bristol Academy with eight games in hand due to many of the squad being involved in the Women's World Cup.

Despite slipping to sixth in the league, Everton ladies are now just seven points adrift of Bristol Academy and still have seven games in hand.

Unfortunately, Bristol Academy are now second to the all-conquering Arsenal ladies who are 11 points ahead of the Blues having played just two games more than them.

So, it already looks like the Gunners girls will be taking home more silverware this season.

In fact, the only defeat that Everton ladies have suffered since the disappointing UEFA Cup defeats in October came at the hands of Arsenal ladies as they beat the Blues 0-2.

Since that defeat, Everton have played just two league games and have come out of both with impressive 3-1 wins over Doncaster Rovers Belles and Bristol Academy.

They have also progressed through to the final of the League Cup thanks to a 2-1 win over Watford.

Toni Duggan netted the winner in extra time to earn the Blues (would it be non-pc to call them the Blue Birds?) a place in the final where they will meet…wait for it…Arsenal!

And they continue to march on in the FA Cup as they have swept aside Barnet 9-0 (yes, nine - nil) and Leicester 3-1.

The ladies next game is an FA Cup quarter final showdown away at Newcastle on 24th February before they have a crunch clash at home to Arsenal Thursday 28th.

The game won't look anything like this as this picture is from the 1999 League Cup final, but I didn't want to start searching for images of women in Arsenal and Everton kits…don't know what that might throw up!
