Wigan confirm Ellington interest.

Last updated : 08 October 2002 By Austin Rathe
"Long term, if he continues to develop how we think he will, it may be difficult to keep hold of him but we are going for promotion with this team and he is a very important part of our plans so he will be remaining at the JJB." Said Whelan.

"David Moyes has been here again today and he may well have been watching 'The Duke' amongst others," he confirmed.

Allington has been attracting a lot of interest recently, and Everton are starting to look for strikers. Despite how well Kevin Campbell is playing at the moment, he won't be around for ever, and the blues need to find replacements for both him and Duncan Ferguson within the next two seasons.

The plan is clearly to buy young talent and take a risk on them developing, as we simply cannot compete with the huge clubs for the £30m strikers.
