The Toffees struck twice in the last 12 minutes against Spurs at Goodison Park in an exhilarating comeback that earned a 2-2 draw in December 2009.
That result provided a spark for the rest of the season as David Moyes' side, after a sluggish start to the campaign, lost just two of their remaining 23 games.
This time Everton's start has been even more pedestrian, with only 22 points gained from 20 games to sit just two points above the bottom three.
An impressive win over Manchester City on December 20 failed to prove the turning point with a draw at struggling West Ham and a loss at Stoke following, and Moyes wants different on Wednesday.
Looking back to Spurs' last visit, Moyes said: "We came back and got the goal late on, we looked as if we were dead and buried. But we have had that five or six times this year and have not been able to deliver - we have not been able to get on that run. I hope we can beat Tottenham - that would be a start."
