"If Ruud comes through his training this week without a problem, then we may put him on the bench against Everton," Sir Fergie said at the weekend.
The return of the Dutchman would come after three months out, and would pose one or two problems for Sir Alex. They have been playing a sucessful 4-5-1 formation since his injury, allowing Roy Keane to get more support in midfield, and Giggs & Ronaldo to work as real wide players.
Wayne Rooney, meanwhile, has been banging in goals on his own up front, and it would take a brave manager to change their current way of playing.
Rumours persist that Rooney may be rested for the cup game, the main reason being the Champion's League game four days later, wcich needless to say is a priority. However, questions remain regarding Rooney's temper, and in a very hostile Goodison Park, it will be tested to the limit.
