Only one more step to safety

Last updated : 23 April 2004 By Sean Graham
After my week away with the family at Pitlochry and my trip to Goodison for the Spurs match, more to follow later, I am now back and ready to keep you all updated with all things Blue, all rise!

Everton go into this weekend's match with Blackburn, who themselves are still not out of the relegation dogfight, on the back of a three match unbeaten run with two draws and a win under their belt. After the match v Spurs the Blues have earned two very hard away draws at Leeds and Chelsea, 1-1 at Leeds with Wayne Rooney getting the goal and then a great 0-0 “backs to the wall” against high flying (apart from the Monaco match) Chelsea.

The club must now build on these results and get themselves out of the relegation fight once and for all.

The Manager is looking to next season already and has offered both Tom's Gravesen and Radzinski new contracts so we know that the manager has these guys in his plans, good stuff.

When I was away I missed both the Jeffers carry on and the JJB deal which should be good for the club. David Moyes for one will welcome any cash that is made available for new [layers that need to be brought into the club. Indeed not only will players be coming to Goodison one or two will be shown the door, if rumours are to be believed.

A rumour doing the rounds in Glasgow is that both the Old Firm are interested in Franny Jeffers and Rangers are interested in David Unsworth but we shall wait and see what happens.

Speaking of David Moyes' old club Celtic they have had mixed news this week. The team were finally crowned Champions of Scotland this week after a 1-0 win over Kilmarnock a goal by Stan Petrov and are also looking forward to a Scottish Cup Final v Dunfermline but they were dealt a real blow with the news that former goalkeeper and another one of the world famous Lisbon Lions has died of a heart attack. Ronnie Simpson played for Celtic in the European Cup Final in 1967 against Inter Milan when Celtic defeated the Italians 2-1 and became the first British side to win this great trophy. Ronnie or "faither" as he was known to all at Celtic Park will never be forgotten God Bless You Ronnie you are in safe hands now!
Speaking of passing away I have been asked to thank fans and players from Boro, Leicester, Liverpool and many others who have paid respect to Bernard Murphy, thanks for all your respect.

Thoughts also go the best player of my time, Maradona, lets hope that he makes a full recovery.
