In fact, the only sure thing on Satuday was that Liverpool would play their 'Injuries and old men XI' and get rolled at Portsmouth.
But, for an hour on Saturday our fifth place was in the bag and memories of that glorious night in 2004 sprang to mind.
In fact, memories of that glorious afternoon in September also came into people's thoughts as, the way United's heads had clearly dropped, a push for a third goal was not beyond us.
Then Iain Turner got a touch of the Richard Wright's and you know the how the rest of the day panned out!
Bolton's draw at Chelsea put them in fifth spot with a trip to West Ham and a home game against Aston Villa to look forward to.
But, with the form West Ham are in and the departure of fat head from the Reebok yesterday, it's quite feasible that the Trotters won't pick up another point this term.
The Blues sit just a point behind in sixth and then Portsmouth occupy seventh spot, just a point adrift of ourselves.
A win against Pompey will put them out of the picture and a draw may even be enough as we are seven goals better off and they have Arsenal at home on the last day.
Then Tottenham are in eighth, also on 53 points but they have a game in hand on everyone else.
Thankfully, it's against Blackburn, the last of the European hopefuls, and a win for Spurs would end Blackburn's hopes altogether.
But anything less would seriously dent Tottenham's hopes of finishing above us as we are 13 goals better off than them.
The bad news though is that, either side of the Blackburn game, Spurs face Charlton away and Man City at home.
So it looks like Tottenham will finish above us with at least 59 points then!
Then in ninth we've got, wait for it, 'this season's surprise package', Reading.
They play Newcastle at home tonight, then have Watford at home on Saturday and face Blackburn away on the final day.
As it stands, they are three points behind us and six goals worse off, so a win for Newcastle tonight would do us a real favour.
And, again, either them or Blackburn are going to drop points on the final day, which is good news for us.
Moyes said of our rivals for a Europena place: "All the teams around us have had must win games and if we want to get into Europe we need to win our must-win game"
He added:"We have had a very good season and if we want to get something from the season we need to finish in one of those top seven places. We have to win, there's nothing else to it."
But it's quite feasible that we could end up finishing ninth and, whilst we would still have European football via the Intertoto Cup as Reading have not applied for it, it would be a bitterly disappointing end to what has been, by and large, been a very good season.
