Boss David Moyes has told Nigerian duo Yakubu and Joseph Yobo they could still have a role to play at Everton this season.
The Nigerian pair both had loan spells away from Toffees last season and were expected to leave Goodison Park over the summer. Yobo spent the entire campaign at Turkish side Fenerbahce, while Yakubu joined npower Championship side Leicester City in January.
But Yobo's proposed switch to Fenerbahce has been put in serious doubt with the present match-fixing scandal that hangs over the Turkish side while Leicester boss Sven Goran Eriksson has not yet followed up his interest in Yakubu, preferring to concentrate on attempts to sign his Everton teammate Jermaine Beckford instead. Moyes admitted that he has not included the pair so far in his plans for this season but that will change if they are still at the club when the transfer window shuts.
The Toffees boss told the Liverpool Post: "Once the deadline goes, I'll look at where we are. Both players, when they were away, made it clear that they didn't to come back and play, but they are back at the moment."I have spoken to both the boys, they are fine, they are working well, they are getting on with things."If they are still here after the deadline they will come back into the fold."
