Everton were reduced to 10 men in a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of their neighbours on Wednesday - a demoralising result just three days ahead of their now-daunting FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United.
Martinez was left counting the cost of a highly damaging night at Anfield, and not only in terms of morale
Ramiro Funes Mori's sending-off for a controversial tackle on Divock Origi means he is suspended for the weekend while Gareth Barry and John Stones joined Seamus Coleman and Phil Jagielka on the injury list.
Additionally, the clash with United on Saturday could also be critical for Martinez's own hopes of surviving at Goodison Park as pressure from fans mounts.
The Spaniard said: "We need to regroup and make sure we have that opportunity to give the fans what they deserve - a chance to get in the final. That game is so close to us I don't feel we should dwell on this game too long.
"It is such a huge footballing occasion at the weekend that the only way we have got is to face adversity in an exemplary way and get ready to perform well in the semi-final."
Everton were overwhelmed by Liverpool, who had 37 attempts on goal compared to their visitors' three.
The Reds had already squandered several chances before Origi put them ahead in the 43rd minute
Mamadou Sakho quickly added a second and Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho struck in the second half.
Everton had to play the last 40 minutes without Funes Mori after the Argentinian received a straight red for the challenge that ended Origi's game
The Belgian was carried off on a stretcher with an ankle injury and there are fears he could miss the rest of the season.
Barry, who was making a record-equalling 571st Premier League start, suffered a groin injury in the latter stages of the first half
Stones, who had a poor game, came off with stomach cramps shortly after his poor pass led to Liverpool's third goal
It leaves Everton with a number of issues in defence.
Martinez said: "Already Phil Jagielka is a doubt for the weekend and we need to assess John. It was illness but we hope he can be fully fit.
"Gareth Barry will be a little bit different. We will have to assess him and clearly Ramiro Funes Mori is going to miss the game through suspension.
"But the damage of this performance shouldn't affect the reaction and making sure we are ready to repay our fans."
