Knee jerk

Vaughan has only just recently returned to first team action, albeit in very small doses, after overcoming a persistent problem with his left knee...and then he goes and knackers his right one in training.

In a sort of 'galss half full' statement, Everton physio Mick Rathbone said: "He [Vaughan] will be out until the New Year. The only saving grace is that it is not the knee he has had so much trouble with in the past."

Which is basically like saying that instead of having just one crocked knee he's now got two and that doesn't sound like a saving grace of any description!

And, just when you thought things couldn't get much worse, it looks like Everton could be without both Louis Saha and Steven Pienaar for the trip to Tottenham at the weekend.

Both players reported to training on Monday with notes from their mum's, Mrs Saha excusing Louis from training as he has 'tight hamstrings' whilst Mrs Pienaar asked if little Steven could be excused as he has a 'bruised knee'...no, seriously, check the official site if you don't believe me!

So the black cloud is still looming large over Goodison and the next group of fixtures, looking forward as far as the start of February, see us facing the Sky Four as well as Harry's Hotspurs, Villa and Man City and the small matter of the FA Cup third round...let's face it, we're unlikely to be in the draw for the fourth round!

So if you think things couldn't get much worse after the Wigan game then you better re-check the fullness of that glass...if you can even find the thing!
