Everton's injury-prone hitman played 68 minutes of the reserves 0-0 draw at Sunderland on Wednesday night.
Vaughan has been out of action since he suffered a knee cartilage injury in November.
The striker required surgery to repair the damage but his rehabilitation was put back due Dr. Richard Steadman being unable to operate due to him breaking his arm.
And, short of him being struck by lightning - would it actually surprise anyone if it happened though - he is hoping to be back for the semi-final showdown at Wembley next week.
Vaughan said of his run out for the reserves: "It has been a long time coming but I am pleased to be back out there on the pitch. The knee felt really well and strong, so I am happy with that."
He added: "My aim is to come back and help the team push on for Europe and in the FA Cup semi final."
The game against Villa on Sunday looks have come around too soon but, all being well, Vaughan will be in the squad for Everton's first trip to Wembley since 1995.
And a repeat of that result would see us right!
