Can you hear the drums Fernandes?

As it looks like your going back to Benfica after the Chelsea game son.

Which is a real shame as Fernandes looks like he could be every bit as good as Mikel Arteta, given a little time to settle in.

A lot of people passed comment, particularly after the Man United game, that Fernandes didn't do enough work off the ball.

But that misses the point completely as it's what he does when he has the ball that really matters!

Everton have enough players that can run around and close down but very few that can actually do anything constructive when the Blues are in possession.

And Fernandes has looked just about as good as anybody when he has the ball, never giving away possession, not afraid to shoot, and being able to get out of the tightest of spots with his mad turns and drag backs!

But I guess the writing was on the wall for Fernandes when Moyes, somewhat churlishly in my view, came out an publicly criticised him after the Man United game.

Criticism which came in spite of his wonder goal and more abject performances from other players across the team, notably Neville and Hibbert.

But it seems that Benfica's asking price is the real sticking point as his value has been estimated at anything from £6 million to £12 million.

Moyes has said of any permanent move for Fernades: "It's something that we'll look at, though the price is probably a bit too rich for us, if it's correct."

But another midfielder that could be turning out for the Blues next season is Man CIty's Joey Barton.

Barton's agent has confirmed that the midfielder will be allowed to leave Eastlands in the summer should a club bid £5.5 million for him.

And he would, no doubt, be a great addition to our midfield.

But the big question is, given his propensity for attacking his own players, be it physically or verbally, is he really worth the risk?
