It looked like the deal was all but done with the Blues but Sheffield Wednesday's Algerian defender was given permission to talk to Charlton and has opted for a move to the Valley.
The Owls did not want to sell him but Bougherra allegedly threatened not to play for Wednesday and they were forced into accepting a bid of around £2.5 million.
Sheffield Wednesday manager, Brian Laws, couldn't understand why Bougherra opted for Charlton over Everton as he said: "Good luck to Madjid. I wished him all the best but I think he's made the wrong choice. Charlton rather than Everton is a no-brainer."
