Baxter gets Blues out the soup

The Blues, again, fielded a very young team but the bench was bolstered by the presence of Leighton Baines, Ayegbeni Yakubu and Steven Pienaar, who all made substitute appearances.

Everton's youngsters had another good run out and only fell behind to a Nuno Valente own goal.

Lewis McGuigan took Everton on down the right flank before firing in a cross that our big-faced full back diverted past Iain Turner.

But Everton were drew level soon after as Jose Baxter picked up the ball outside the
Forest area and blasted it past Paul Smith in the Forest goal.

The only downside to the trip was that Mikel Arteta and Andy van der Meyde both picked up injuries.

Arteta was substituted after just half an hour as a clash with
Forest's Aaron Davies left him with a dead leg.

The substitution was just precautionary though and Arteta will be travelling to
America with the rest of the squad.

Andy van der Meyde was not so lucky though as a hamstring strain sustained after 13 minutes looks to have ruled him out for the start of the season.

In other Blues' news, it looks as though Andy Johnson is definitely on his way out as he was, again, left out of last night's squad and will not be travelling to
America.

And, according to the local press, David Moyes is ready to 'step-up' his interest - whatever that means - in Portuguese midfielder Joao Moutinho.

Sporting Lisbon are said to have no interest in selling their captain but have placed a £20 million price tag on him - presumably not with a big frig-off price gun - so expect Everton to offer £8 million and Jospeh Yobo's brother or something for him.

And it's time to get the bunting out as Phil Neville has signed a four-year deal with the club….
