April...Fools!

McFadden fractured his foot over a month ago whilst playing head tennis in training (the mind boggles) and he looks to be out for another four weeks.

The jinky striker is to have an x-ray in a couple of weeks to monitor his progress but Blues' physio Mick Rathbone reckons he should be fit for selection by the end of the month.

He said of McFadden: "He is doing stuff in the pool and the gym now. I think it will be nearer six weeks out than 12. When a pin is placed it does stabilise the fracture and you can be a little bit more robust with them so you do tend to get a slightly earlier return to playing."

Meanwhile, Nuno Valente appears to have contracted Alessandro Pistone's Play Doh muscle fibres and will be out for another four weeks with a calf strain.

That will mean that he has missed another six-and-a-half weeks of the season with a muscle tear he sustained stretching for a ball in a Friday training session.

And we gave him another year at the club!

In other injury news, Alan 'Stubbsy' Stubbs could be back for the weekend's match at Brammal Lane as he has resumed light training.

But Andy van der Meyde will be ruled out of that game with a thigh strain.

The enigma is set to return to training next week and, if I can be arsed, he may become the subject of a new regular feature titled 'Tales from the Treament Table'.

But probably not!
