And don't call me Shirley!

In another of those interviews that sees Moyes assure everyone that he's going to put pen to paper, it'll definitely be before the Arsenal game this time, the Everton boss reveals that he was close to walking out on the club as long ago as July.

But a stirring speech by Bobby Robson, the Frank Drebin of football, during which he revealed that he'd spent 12 successful years as Ipswich boss from the late 60's to the early 80's, made Moyes reassess his future.

The Everton boss said: "It had been going through my head that to be at one club for six and a half years was a long time — possibly too long."

He added: "Then I went to this dinner in July for Bobby Robson. He got up to speak about his time in management and said he'd been at Ipswich for more than 12 years — then he mentioned Brian Clough was with Forest for 13."

Although we've had our best Premier League years under Moyes there have been plenty of occasions when he could have been shown the door, and he seems to have finally realised that he's very privileged to have spent six-and-a-half years at the helm of our grand old team.

So we are now working towards him having his contract signed by time the Arsenal game comes around - and it can't come quick enough can it?! - but there's bound to be something that crops up in the meantime to make him stall…or should that be dither?!

In other Everton news, Andy van der Meyde has come out and said that things can only get better and we've nothing to lose as we face Arsenal and Man United in back to back matches…which, as everyone knows, is complete bollocks
