Legendary Everton midfielder Alan Ball died unexpectedly, aged 61, at his home last night (Tuesday).
A World Cup winner in 1966, Ball signed for Everton from Blackpool for a then record breaking fee of £110,000.
The fiery midfielder then became part of the 'holy trinity', Everton's legendary midfield trio, with Colin Harvey and Howard Kendall.
He was part of Everton's championship winning team of 1969/70.
Unfortunately for Everton, then manager Harry Catterick inexplicably sold Ball to Arsenal for £200,000 just two seasons after that Championship triumph.
It is another sad day as another Everton legend passes away.
