Guess who's back.

Well now that the World Cup draws to its dramatic climax, everyone
at Goodison is now looking forward to the new season and the club's first match at home against Tottenham which looks like a cracker.
The Premiership starts with this match on August 17th but the club has a very important match the week before in honour of David Unsworth, his testimonial match v Athletico Bilbao.

I must say I have enjoyed this World Cup as much as any of the previous ones and it helps when the players from your club side perform well and get as far as the various players with Everton connections did. It was also nice that during the Brazil v Turkey match that not only could you see an Everton flag in the crowd, John Motson actually mentioned it in commentary, even though the boys are not playing they are still spoken of all over the world.

Speaking of things world-wide it is nice to see fellow Evertonians look out for one another during their time of need. I have been looking to find an Everton Scottish based supporters club for some time now and I got an e-mail back from a chap in Northern Ireland called Hugh, he has put me in contact with someone who was wanting to start one up, I have contacted him and I am waiting for further news, as soon as I get any I will tell any Scottish Evertonians about it in future columns.

Another deed of kindness was an official World Cup Programme brought back to me from another Evertonian, Kevin, who was lucky enough to be at the finals, he was working there for a few weeks and remembered to bring me back a Programme to add to my collection, these Everton fans have such kind hearts and both gestures are greatly appreciated by myself.

It seems to have been ages since my last column mainly due to the fact I have been off on holiday, well you could hardly call it a holiday, we had to look after our little nephew Rhys, this boy is a handful! David Moyes should get him signed up on a long term contract; he would give most Premiership defenders a hard time! It was a busy time for the family with everything happening from Tracey and I celebrating our 9th Anniversary to both Tracey and Catherine being struck down with chicken-pox and a visit to Ballentrae with the outlaws to visit the relatives, all this and the World Cup and Royal Ascot I have been a busy man!

Now I am back and I will concentrate all matters Blue as the countdown to the pre-season and Premiership proper begins. It seems that David Moyes is not happy with the players fitness and that is why he has taken them to Lyon for special fitness assessments the only hope now is that the don't injure themselves packing their cases coming back home!

If reports are to be believed then the club is interested in bringing both Mark Poom and Brian McBride to Goodison Park for next season. Poom seems to have been linked with the club for quite a while now and does seem to be the keeper that David Moyes wants as his number one next season. But last night another name emerged Czech goalkeeper Petr Cech has been linked with the club but Chief Executive Michael Dunford has denied this saying "That's news to us. We have made no moves for Petr Cech". That means we'll sign him next week!

Other names have come up but swiftly disappeared, these two seem to have a bit of truth in the fact that the club is actually interested in them, but we'll wait and see.
I was waiting to see the headlines if David Moyes did sign Petr Cech. Moyes writes check for Cech! You know what these newspapers are like! Finally before I sign off I have just seen the list of live matches that Everton will be involved in next season they are as follows:

Mon 7 Oct Manchester United v Everton
Sun 27 Oct West Ham v Everton
Sun 22 Dec Liverpool v Everton - easy three points Nick even though
you are in London !

Looking forward to all of those and every Everton match this season but first to Sunday's World Cup Final, Brazil v Germany it should be a cracker!

I would like to pay tribute to the great World Cup performance's of the Irish team that is the kind of spirit that Everton should be showing next season, under David Moyes I think they will! The only thing I will say about the England exit is don't get on David Seaman's back that kind of thing could have happened to anyone, it has been happening to Scottish keepers for years!
