The Stadium has to wait until 2006; in the meantime what have Everton fans to look forward to? We may have one or two cup runs to come but the ultimate prize of Premiership and Champions League football are a long way off. The manager must work miracles to get Everton to finish in the top six, don't forget we are a ‘big club!'.
The future is not too bright in terms of silverware expectations, but there is still the hope of improving the level of football being played. Players will be bought and sold over the coming months which may help Everton improve their play, however there are players whom money cannot buy, players who would give their left gonad to play for the might of the blues.
These are, of course the youth players; they are cheap, keen and desperate to make an impact. If as expected David Moyes puts a large emphasis on youth, then a new Everton could emerge, (here he goes) a team that could compete with the top teams not because of its spending power, but because of its quality.
All Everton fans can do now is sit and wait till the new season starts. Who gives a toss about the InterTomato Cup, it may be European but so is not wearing deodorant and being overrun in world wars. We want the Champions league and the top six nothing less.
Anyone who dreams of finishing in the top half and winning the Intercity Cup deserves to be shot with an arrow fired from the bow of the God Nationwide himself. Oh and congratulations to David Moyes, who grabbed Everton by the scruff of the kneck and carried them to safety.
